Our volunteers are the heart of WOW! Children’s Museum. Whether you’re greeting families at the front desk, helping kids explore our Create Space, or lending your skills behind the scenes, your time and energy make a real difference. We welcome individuals, families, students, and groups who share our belief that every child deserves the chance to learn through play. Ready to jump in? Here’s how to get started.

Volunteer Handbook

How Do I Become a WOW! Volunteer?

Follow the steps below to volunteer. Please fill out the volunteer application first before proceeding

  1. Fill out the volunteer interest form below.
  2. A member of the WOW! team will reach out to schedule a volunteer interview and tour.
  3. Complete a background check (required for volunteers 18 and older).
  4. Review the volunteer handbook.

Volunteer Requirements

  • A minimum commitment of 25 hours and/or 6 months of service. Looking for something shorter? Check out our Special Events volunteer opportunities.
  • Volunteers ages 15–17 may participate with signed parental approval.
  • We are not able to accept volunteers under the age of 15 at this time.
  • Volunteers 18 and older must complete a background check.

Available Volunteer Opportunities

Play Ambassador
Be a playful, welcoming presence on the museum floor. Play Ambassadors help facilitate activities in our Create Space and engage with young visitors throughout the museum.

Exhibits & Building Maintenance
Work alongside our Exhibits and Facilities Manager on routine exhibit upkeep and small repairs. Experience in woodworking, electrical work, painting, or plumbing is a bonus!

Special Events Committee
Help plan and prepare for signature events like WOW! on Tap and our Family FUNdraiser throughout the year.

WOW! on Tap Volunteer
Our biggest fundraiser of the year needs your energy! Volunteers help run game stations, drink stations, silent auction logistics, photography, food service, and more. Must be 21+.

Event Volunteers
Lend a hand at special events by facilitating activities and crafts, and assisting with setup and cleanup.

Database Management
Support our team with Altru/Blackbaud database upkeep and data entry.

Spanish Translation
Help us make WOW! more accessible by translating museum documents, signage, and promotional materials into Spanish.

Photography & Videography
Share your creative eye! Capture photos and video at special events, create content for social media, and help with video editing.
